Cookies and related storage
Cookies are small pieces of information stored by a browser for a website. Local storage and session storage are separate browser mechanisms that can also retain information. They can support necessary functions, preferences, measurement or advertising, depending on how a service uses them.
The editorial pages and tools supplied with this publication do not set cookies or use local storage or session storage. The supplied code contains no analytics, advertising tags or third-party embedded media. Reading the articles, opening the navigation and using the local message preview do not require optional tracking.
What the local tool uses
The correspondence form holds the text you enter in the current page so it can build a preview. It does not intentionally save that text in website storage or submit it to a server. Your browser may restore form contents through its own history, autofill or session-restoration features.
The Copy action requests access to write the prepared text to your clipboard. The Download action creates a plain-text file using your browser. Clipboard history, downloaded files, browser caches and device backups are not cookies, and they may persist under your own device settings.
| Mechanism | Use | Your control |
|---|---|---|
| Cookies and web storage | Not used by the supplied editorial code | Inspect or clear site data in browser settings |
| Current-page form text | Creates the local correspondence preview | Clear fields and check browser restoration settings |
| Clipboard | Receives text only when you choose Copy | Replace or clear clipboard contents and history |
| Downloaded text file | Saves a note only when you choose Download | Manage the file and any backups on your device |
Managing your browser
Your browser’s privacy or site-data settings let you inspect and remove stored website data. You can also limit cookies, disable form autofill and review permissions. Labels vary by browser. Blocking cookies should not prevent these static articles from being read. Disabling JavaScript removes the enhanced mobile navigation and local correspondence tools, while the reading links remain available in the footer.
Normal browser caching may retain copies of images and page files to make repeat visits faster. This differs from tracking. Technical request information may also be processed by hosting infrastructure as described in the Privacy policy.
Changes and questions
If new features introduce storage or optional tracking, the information and any required choices must be updated before those features are used. For questions about this publication’s browser behaviour, contact [email protected].
