Browsing this website
This publication is delivered as static pages. The supplied site code does not include advertising trackers, analytics, third-party embeds or external font requests. Images and other page assets are requested from the website’s own origin.
Delivering and protecting a website involves processing technical information such as an IP address, requested resource, request time, browser information and error details. Hosting providers may retain this information in operational logs. Where such information is processed on our behalf, the purpose is reliable delivery, fault diagnosis and security, based on legitimate interests. Technical information is not used by this site’s editorial code to build advertising profiles.
The local correspondence tool
Names, reply addresses, subjects and messages entered into the Contact tool are processed in your browser to create a plain-text preview. The tool does not submit those fields to a server or intentionally store them in cookies or browser storage.
Copying uses your device’s clipboard when permitted. Downloading creates a text file on your device. Your browser, operating system, extensions, clipboard history or device backup settings may retain information independently of this website. Clear the fields, clipboard and downloaded file when appropriate, particularly on shared devices.
When you send an email
If you separately send a message, we receive your email address, the content and attachments you choose to include, and associated email metadata. We use this information to review correspondence, respond where appropriate, assess corrections and maintain a reasonable record of editorial decisions. Our usual lawful basis is legitimate interests in operating and improving an editorial publication. Legal obligations may provide a separate basis where applicable.
Do not send security arrangements, confidential inventories or unnecessary sensitive personal information. We do not add correspondents to a marketing list through this tool or sell correspondence data.
Service providers and retention
Hosting and email providers may process information to deliver their services. Access should be limited to those who need it for the stated purposes. If processing involves transfers outside the United Kingdom, applicable transfer requirements and safeguards must be met.
Correspondence is retained only as long as reasonably necessary for the enquiry, relevant editorial record or applicable legal obligation. Unnecessary duplicates and information no longer needed should be deleted. Records may be retained longer where a dispute, legal duty or security investigation requires it.
Your rights
Depending on the circumstances and applicable law, you may request access, correction, erasure, restriction or portability of personal information, or object to processing based on legitimate interests. These rights are not absolute. We may need proportionate information to verify a request, and we will explain any applicable exception.
You may complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk, or to the relevant supervisory authority in your jurisdiction. You can contact us first, but you do not have to do so before approaching the regulator.
